What are your Top Ten Christmas carols of all time?

Post by Vintage Bob »

Ok, let's make this challenging. Of all the Christmas carols ever recorded, what are your top ten favorites? Ten only, and you can add one as an honorable mention, just for the cheat factor. ;) Mine would be:

Carol of the Bells - Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir
Carol of the Bells - Trans-Siberian Orchestra
Carol of the Bells (Instrumental) - David Foster
Silver Bells - Johnny Mathis
Holly Jolly Christmas - Burl Ives
Sleigh Ride - Johnny Mathis
Jingle Bell Rock - Bobby Helms
Little Drummer Boy - Harry Simeone Choir
Mele Kalikimaka (Hawaiian Christmas) - Bing Crosby
Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) - Hanson

There are lots of other nostalgic favorites, but these would be my top ten favorites. If I could only ever have 10 Christmas carols recorded, those would be my pics. Yes, I love Carol of the Bells, and each version is of particular joy to me. Honorable mention would go to a more modern duet...

All I Want For Christmas Is You - Mariah Carey & Justin Bieber

That one's growing on me. Love the sound - so happy! And Santa's costume is amazing! Love how the little boy smiles his heart out in the video. So uplifting!

Three Little Drummers by the Beers Family is WAY up at the top.
The Holly Bears a Berry, by the Beers Family.
The First Noel by Emmy Lou Harris
Christmas Time's a Comin' by Emmy Lou Harris
Christmas Time's a Comin by Sammy Kershaw
I Saw Three Ships by Mario Lanza
Toyland by Doris Day

For the rest, I'd have trouble narrowing it down to forty. :-)

Another one that's climbing my charts that I honestly have not heard in years (don't as me how that's possible!) is Ring Christmas Bells (Carol of the Bells) by Ray Conniff. God it's beautiful!

Gotta add a few new honorary faves...

Ring Christmas Bells - Ray Conniff Singers

God I love this song! I hadn't heard it in years and only late last year did I come across it again.

Here Comes Santa Claus - Gene Autry

This one brings back such intense memories!
